Picture 1.1 ReadyBoost could improve your personal computer |
ReadyBoost
is a program that aims to temporarily store files (cache) that are
frequently accessed by Windows 10 onto a USB Flash Drive or SD Card. ReadyBoost makes use of a service called SuperFetch. SuperFetch uses an algorithm to determine the cache storage location.
When
a cache file is required, the file will be retrieved from the
ReadyBoost cache location instead of RAM. In theory, this will improve
your computer's performance because it will give you more RAM space.
BUT, does using ReadyBoost have a significant impact on computer
performance?
USB
speed is slower than RAM. It's still better if the cache is stored in
RAM than USB. Therefore ReadyBoost only helps if the computer does not
have sufficient RAM capacity. If you already have a sufficient amount of
RAM, ReadyBoost won't be of much help
ReadyBoost is ideal for computers with small RAM capacities between 512 MB - 1GB (benchmark results
).Increasing RAM capacity will be much better than using ReadyBoost.
